Kid Weekend

Sean picked up Mary and Jake last Thursday night from Limon. He and Beth took them to see Bolt at the movie theatre. They spent the night at Sean's and went to JumpStreet Friday. I had to work, so I missed out but heard it was tons of fun. JumpStreet is all trampolines. Guess they even had trampoline dodge ball that could get pretty heavy if you weren't paying attention.

Friday night we went out for Pizza and then to Mr Biggs FunPlex. The pizza place had art for sale on the wall. I asked Jake which one was his favorite and he picked one of Venice. I told him how Venice has roads of water and he thought that was pretty neat. He then asked my favorite and I picked one of the ocean with crashing waves on the beach and a silhouette of a tree. He asked me again if I was sure that was my favorite. Then he said he'd be back......The cute little guy went to the hostess to buy the picture for me!!! He said he was ready with his $6.25 but the lady told him that the picture was actually $625....He told me if he had the money he would have spent it so I could have the picture....now that's a sweetheart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mr Biggs was fun. We played mini golf, laser tag, bowling, and rode Mr. Twister (well they rode Mr. Twister, I was getting sick watching Mr. Twister). We learned once again that Jake is a natural at sports. This was the first time he played mini golf and he did great. Mary and I played through and had fun being silly and trying over and over to get the ball in...we aren't naturals...but we had fun.



They spent Friday night with me and Mary woke up early to help me feed. Then we were off, back to Denver. This time to meet up with Jared and his 2 girls, Keiran and Evee. We had breakfast and went to Jungle Quest. Jungle Quest was pretty fun with vines to hang on and zip lines.


This was the first time the 2 cousins have met and I think they all enjoyed each other. I know I did, Keiran is very polite and funny. Evee is still pretty young and shy, but by the end of it she was warming up to us all. It was nice to see Jared. With his busy schedule we don't see enough of each other.



We said goodbye to Jared and his family and met up with Sean and Bet to let the kids open their Christmas gifts. We went together and got Mary a bike and Jake a Power Razor. I spoil them a little more then maybe I should, but I think that is part of being an Aunt...and their only Aunt at that.





They both got me presents. Mary gave me a picture frame that had her pic on one side and a card saying Mary means exalted. She also made me a vase, bracelet and gave me some little cows she bought at school. They were all very good presents. Thank you Mary...oh and a home made card telling me how much she loves me!!! The best part present of all!!!

Jake asked Sean to take him shopping the night before. He picked out a game for me "Things." Sean said he asked for help to be sure and get me something I would. He went up to the cashier and got his money ready..then Sean stepped in and said he'd get it....I'm lucky to have such great people in my life! Thank you Jake and Sean! And yes, I like the game and am excited to have some friends over so we can play it. It was one of the games I was actually going to buy for myself.

Saturday night we, including Phil, went bowling in Longmont with Sean and Beth, Sean M and Krystal. By the time Sunday morning rolled around I was broke and exhausted.

Jake woke up early and helped me feed. Mary wanted to sleep in and Jake said that would be best since she is grumpy if she doesn't get enough sleep (hmmm, kind of like Aunt Tenneile). We had to leave the house by noon to meet Ang in Limon so we stayed home and played on the haystacks.

It was a great weekend and I was sad to see them go. Can't wait for next time...but I may need a few weeks to catch up on sleep.

Happy New Year!!!

We went out to dinner at Famous Dave's with Conrad and his wife Melissa. Phil meat Conrad when they worked at Leed. After dinner we went to a party the neighbor was having. It was nice to be close enough to home that we could walk if we wanted...or needed. He had a barn party with a live band, lots of booze and plenty of people...better then a bar in my opinion...of course, sleeping the New Year in is better then the bar in my opinion. We had a pretty fun night....and I was able to drive us home...but Phil found it pretty funny when we were in our driveway and turned on the blinker to turn into the garage...hey, I was just being careful.

Christmas 2008

Hopefully everybody had a merry Christmas. I know we did.

The days before Christmas Phil was stressing over what to get me. I'm not sure why he finds it so hard to buy for me. I always find things for me and hardly ever forget to mention to him that I'd like them (I'm such a kid this way). We were chatting about it and out of the blue decided we'd go shopping for me together. We made a day of it and lots of fun. I tried not to linger too long in the stores. I could tell he was doing his best to stay in a good mood while other busy Christmas shoppers were bustling around. When we got home he asked that I please not make him wrap all the gifts. Not a problem. That's one part I don't enjoy much either.

Christmas morning he opened his gifts and I finally allowed myself to enjoy mine. We watched some of the bull riding DVDs I got him. One was a copy of the 99 PBR finals. This was the year we went with Sean and Krystal. The 2nd round was one of the best nights of bull riding we've seen. Phil has since talked about it and wished he had it on video. I did a little asking around and got in touch with Becky Mataska that sent me the VHS, then a friend of Jessicca's, Dallas, burned it on a DVD for us. Phil was thrilled when he opened it.

We had dinner at Jessicca and Aaron's. Sean, Beth and Brenda joined us. It was a great time with tons of good food. Jessicca even said it was the top 5 dinners she has ever had.

Phil and I have a tradition to go out to a movie every Christmas night. We've lost count of how many years we've been doing this but my best guess would be 11...maybe 12. We went to Seven Pounds with Will Smith this year. I would give it 3 out of 5 stars. Its OK, it makes you think...but gets boring in the middle and the twists and turns are too obvious to be called twists and turns.

This weekend Mary and Jake are coming up and I'm eager to give them their gifts. I'm also going to take them over to Jared's so we can give them their gifts. The best part of Christmas for me is spending time with my family and watching them open the gifts I got them. I always try to get that perfect thing for them, some years I fail...but I think I get it right more times then not.

Nothing to say....

Do you know when you run into someone you haven't seen in a while and they ask what's new? I really try to think of something besides "just working"....but I hardly ever can. My life is pretty boring. I did tell a fried once "just working and making babies"....the minute it came out I knew it was wrong. He immediately went to teasing me.."hope you're talking about the cows and bull if not it's a little more info then I needed to know about you and Phil..." I could see myself blush I was so embarrassed.

But in realty I work, I feed, I go out to dinner with friends, I sleep, I watch TV, Sundays when its nice out we buck bulls. It makes a pretty boring blog...and I don't take pictures...Guess I'm trying to explain why I haven't made any posts lately.

I did have a birthday and am 32. I can't believe it..It feels like yesterday when I was trying to decide which college to go to. I remember my friend Heidi and I drove to Sterling and Ft. Morgan to look at schools. I didn't know how to drive under 90 and scared her a little taking some curves...how I lived to be 32 is beyond me.

The Saturday before my bday my brother Sean and his girlfriend, Beth took us out to sushi and Sean M and Krystal came along. Sushi is one of my addictions. It took me a long time to give it a try, but when I did I was hooked. Finally got Phil to eat it and he likes it, not an addict like me but he likes it.

On my birthday my dad was going to take us to dinner, but had some delays and couldn't make it. We ended up going with my brother Jason and his family for BBQ.It was great to catch up and see my niece, Tru and nephew Zen (yes, some unique names. Jason and Megan are a bit of the hippy variety).

Tonight, my friend Jessicca and Aaron are taking me out for Mexican for a late birthday celebration.

Kind of funny how everything turns into dinner...probably need to slow it down...gotta be able to stay in these jeans..i'm too cheap to buy new ones.

And hopefully my dad can make it this Monday to celebrate yet again another birthday dinner....

Well that's about it. I'm working on having Mary and Jake spend the next weekend with me so maybe I'll have something fun to report after that.

Take Your Daughter To Work

This is Phil and Jenny Hauling sand. Phil had to go to an oil well that just happened to be at our place (and named after me, Rice). It was his last load of the day so I walked through the pasture with the dogs and chatted with him while he worked. Instead of walking back we decided to load the dogs up in the semi and drive back. Jenny was VERY cute sitting with her daddy. I'm sure she'd love to go with him every day if she could

Classic Results

There were over 80 bulls in the 3 divisions (yearlings, 2 year olds and 3 year olds). The deal started at 8 pm and got over at 3 am!!!! It was a long night, but lots of fun. We ran into people we haven't seen for years. Dirty was the 3rd to last bull out so I had the whole night to pray he did well.

The only pens open when we got there were end pens...with our past history of bulls jumping out and running around parking lots we decided leaving him on the trailer would be best.

Dirty stumbled a bit right out of the chute. That lost him a few points and got his rider out of position. He picked him self back up and started kicking the lights out and spinning. He didn't get to show off much because he had his rider bucked off pretty quickly.

We scored an 86 and placed 11th out of 31. We were out of the money, but I'm still proud of him!!

My batteries died just minutes before his trip, so I had to borrower Krystal's camera to record. Once I get that video from her I'll post.

There is rumor of another event this year in Castle Rock (this was suppose to be the last, but maybe not). I'm eager to take him again.

Been a long time

So it's been over a month since I blogged anything. Mainly because I don't have any pictures and isn't that really the best part. I do have some videos, but I'll give you all a break on bucking bull videos.

We went to a bull riding in Idaho Springs a few weekends ago. It was a benefit for breast cancer and I was pretty disappointed in the turnout. Only 1/3 of the bull riders that were expected showed up. For a benefit I expect more! They only had left hand deliveries so we were limited to only taking Dr. Suess. He was put in the short-go and bucked his guy off pretty quickly. Phil heard the producer say "now, that's a short-go bull!"

While there we ran into an old college buddy. It was nice to catch up and re-hash old memories. When we were in college he spurred himself in the butt after coming off a bronc. He was told to take a bath in Epsom salt to relieve the pain. He didn't have any Epsom salt, so he used table salt...Yeah, not the best idea and to say the least it did nothing but increase the pain. I have other stories, and probably better ones, but none that are clean enough for the board....I had to laugh every time I looked at the guy.

Saturday after that my cousin came up with her boyfriend and we took them up to Estes Park. Didn't realize they were having a special event and the place was packed! We didn't do much but eat lunch, but I still enjoyed the time with Ruby to catch up. Wish she lived closer so could see her more.

Then on Sunday Phil's mom and I did the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure, a 5K walk/jog through downtown Denver. There were over 80,000 people!!! It was a great experience and something I plan to do every year. If we invite just one more person to join our group each year, we'll be doing a small part to help find a cure.

After the walk, we meant my brother and his girlfriend, Beth for brunch. We were sporting our Race for the Cure t-shirts. I went to pay and was told it was already purchased. I went to say thank you and the lady who bought it was a 17 year survivor. It was great to talk with her and really put everything into prospective.

Friday we have a classic event in Loveland that we are taking Dirty Rice too. As always, I'm nervous, excited and jittery. All I ask is that he does what I know he can do and the cowboy stays on long enough for the judges to see what he's all about. After that it's in the hands of the judges. We have a lot of friends going and expect a pretty good time. I'll report back on how it goes, and hopefully will remember to take pictures.
